DIRECTOR, HELSINKI INSTITUTE OF PHYSICS

Helsinki Institute of Physics (HIP, www.hip.fi) is a national joint research institute of the Universities of Helsinki and Jyväskylä, the Aalto University and the Technical Universities of Lappeenranta and Tampere. The research fields include theoretical physics, experimental particle physics and technology related to accelerators. The national mission of HIP is primarily to carry out and promote basic research related to international particle accelerator laboratories, applied research and development, and to participate in postgraduate physics education. HIP coordinates Finnish research within CERN and FAIR GmbH.

HIP is seeking

A DIRECTOR

for a fixed term of 5 years starting on 1 January 2018. The director will be employed by the University of Helsinki.

The director’s duties include administration, development, and supervision of the work and finances of the institute. The director will lead the work of the institute and will ensure that the institute is productive, economical, and effective. The director bears the comprehensive responsibility for the human resources, finances, and property of the institute. The director will be in charge of the general operations of the institute and make decisions on internal issues within the framework of the regulations. The director will prepare the target programme and the budget for the institute and is responsible for preparing and presenting items to be discussed by the board, as well as implementing the decisions made by the board.

The director must have completed a doctoral degree, be familiar with the research fields, and be competent to act as academic director. Applicants must have research credits, international experience, and be able to cooperate. The post requires fluency in English.
