PROJECT SECRETARY

the position is temporary (maternity leave replacement) starting 1.1.2018 and continuing at least until the end of July.

Our project secretary assists in research, administration and other activities. We are offering a chance to experience the (very) many aspects of research in a dynamic group. Administrative tasks will include budgeting and bill handling, ordering contracts and permissions for research staff, reporting to funding agencies and travel booking and planning. Research tasks will include scientific illustration, updating our website and social media, some DNA extraction, possibly fieldwork, as well as other research tasks and general problem solving. To thrive in this work, you should be happy with both repetitive, routine tasks and creative improvisation.

We are looking for someone with fluent English and preferably Finnish, independent problem solving abilities and a desire to meet new challenges. A suitable candidate will be able to adjust flexibly to changing tasks and schedules. Studies in biology and good IT skills will give you an advantage – besides the usual programs we appreciate experience with Drupal, CorelDRAW, R, Microsoft Access and GIS software (MapInfo or others). Since the project secretary serves as the linking node of the entire research group, outstanding social skills, rock solid managing skills and extreme flexibility are prime selection criteria. There will be a learning period when you will work alongside the current project secretary. There will be a four-month trial period for the position.

The salary level is based on level 5 of the demands level chart for other personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal work performance. The salary will be ca. 2100 - 2600 euros/month, depending on the appointee’s qualifications and experience.
